Yarn Store Operative
Purpose
To work as part of a team providing an efficient service within yarn production with the goal of maximising operating efficiencies while maintaining the highest standards of yarn quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Taking receipt of both internal/external yarns into department, identify, weighing and depositing into stock/location updating the system as required.
- Picking yarn for production jobs, this involves locating, identifying, weighing, and distributing yarn to relevant warping frame/loom and updating the system as required.
- Removal of unused yarn from the machine (warping or loom), weighing, relocating back to stock location or rework.
- Performing all stock adjustments and movements on SAP/Mertex (IT System) to ensure accuracy of stock weight and location.
- Ensuring picks are made according to the correct reserved batches to maintain required quality standards.
- Reporting any problems or faults to the management team so they can be rectified.
- Working with the team/departments to maintain high quality standards with the upkeep and care of all yarn to minimise the costs of poor quality.
- General housekeeping activities.
- Maintaining safe working practices.
- Any other duties as and when reasonably requested by the management team.
Once you have completed your training and have full understanding of our yarn and the processes involved, you will have the opportunity to train and develop in another area of our business such as :
- Dyehouse and blending
- Yarn Production
- Weaving Production
- Quality
- Finishing operations
- Warehouse and despatch

Attributes and Experience
- Ride on lifter (or FLT) experience preferred but not essential as training will be given
- Physically fit
- Experience with stock receipt, location assignment, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with weighing and managing materials, especially yarn.
- Attention to detail – Accurately identifying, weighing, and updating information to maintain inventory accuracy.
- Comfortable with manual handling adhering to Health & Safety requirements.
- Work under own initiative and as part of a team.
- Excellent attendance and timekeeping.
- Full capacity to recognise and distinguish between different colours.
- Computer literate – will receive addition training on SAP system and scanners
